How to store dahlia tubers

You might have come to our tuber sale recently, and made a purchase of some of our fantastic tubers at incredibly reasonable prices......and are now wondering what to do with them. Don't panic, they are fairly forgiving. The main thing is to try and store them in a dry frost free environment - a shed or a garage may be ideal. Beyond that, you don't need to do anything with them for a while yet. They can be stored like this until ready to plant out when all risk of frost has gone in the spring. It is possible you have a large tuber that can be divided up, but probably best not to try this with your new purchase unless you are comfortable doing it! Or, if you have the facilities, you can move them into a warm greenhouse in the New Year and try to get some early cuttings. Either of these two techniques mean you can rapidly multiply the number of plants you have from a single tuber. If you have any questions then do feel free to ask by sending us a message on our contact form, and we will do our best to answer them!
